Background...
Brain Over Muscle was originally released in 1995. In those days, we didn't think so much of Neotek as 'Band'. It was just us enjoying ourselves making music in our studio.

Neotek as a side project
Many tracks on the album were done in 1993 and 1994. In the fall of 1994 we got together with an American friend, Erich Nelson, who wanted to do an album with more focus on the actual songwriting, while maintaining the electro/industrial edge we had in our music. As a result we formed the band Good Courage and started writing songs for our album 'Old, Broken & Destroyed". In the time after finishing these recordings, we went back and listened to the tracks we made before, and decided to make another album while we were at it. This would include some instrumentals, some instrumentals with vocals added and a couple of entirely new tracks. An easy task to complete, and a nice way to say goodbye to our old tracks, as we from then on decided to focus entirely on Good Courage.

A new beginning
But all good things come to an end, and Good Courage only lived until February 1997. Jacob Neis even left the band half a year before that. A period in which we didn't see each other much followed and lasted about three years, before we finally got together again. In 2000 a new definition of Neotek came back to life with a couple of new important missions and several entirely new band-members.

Not just a studio project
Our new missions were to turn Neotek into an electronic live-band, and to produce new tracks for a new album. However time is one of those things you just never seem to have enough of, and we realized it would easily be a matter of years before a new album would be completed. This inspired us to set up a rehearsing facility, remake the most interesting songs for live-usage and then get down to practice. 2004 became our debut-year as a live-band, and there is no doubt that Neotek is a competent act on stage - a different experience in comparison to most electro/industrial bands.

A modern sound
In the meantime we wanted to have a product available for fans to buy, and since Cleopatra Records wanted to re-release the original album we suggested to supplement the album with a set of new remixes. In fact we decided to not only remaster the original tracks, but to dig up the original audio recordings in their original versions and mix them again on modern equipment. This means that the new version of the album reveals much more detail, and has an overall improved dynamic feel. CD1 also has a couple of extra tracks as a bonus.

New remixes
The accompanying CD2 is loaded with brand new remixes. The remixers are for the most part friends or people we know from the Front 242 mailinglist, and you should look out for releases from the remixers, as this is a good place to find a Neotek remix in the near future. Obviously there are a lot of ebm-ish remixes, but we are rather pleased with the many musical styles this CD represents. Some are more club-oriented while others are experimental or even jazzy..!
